Foothills Prison Release Paths
Foothills Correctional Institution is an NC Department of Adult Correction prison. It is not the Burke County Jail. A person can leave Foothills through transfer to another DAC institution, movement to a different custody level or program, or an actual release from the prison system. Only the last route ends the incarceration episode.
A genuine state release may lead to post-release supervision, parole under an older eligible sentence, probation in another case, or full discharge. Post-release supervision is a period of community oversight after prison under structured sentencing. Discharge means the state sentence and related supervision have ended. The DAC public record separates these ideas, so read both the incarceration entry and the probation, parole, or post-release section.

Confirm a Foothills Release
The correct public lookup is DAC Offender Public Information. Start with All or Inactive when release is believed to have occurred. Search fields include name, offender number, date of birth or age range, and demographic filters. A unique offender number is safer than name alone.
- Search under All or Inactive and match the person with more than one identifier.
- Open the individual record rather than relying on a results-row label.
- Find the most recent incarceration episode and read its Actual Release Date.
- Review probation, parole, and post-release supervision status separately.
- Check the sentence history and docket details to ensure the date belongs to the correct episode.
- Use NC SAVAN or a DAC records request when a live event or archival field needs confirmation.
A projected date is an estimate. An Actual Release Date attached to the completed episode is the retrospective release field.

Historical state incarceration and release data belong with DAC Public Records, not the Burke County Sheriff's Office. A request should give the offender's name, offender number if known, the approximate incarceration dates, and the specific release fields sought.

Ask DAC for public basic information tied to the correct state episode. Useful fields include sentence begin date, projected release date, actual release date, incarceration status, primary offense, and supervision dates or status. The facility page did not supply a public records fee or guaranteed turnaround, so DAC should quote the current terms. County jail requests do not reach state prison records.
Foothills Prison Custody Details
DAC describes Foothills as a male close and minimum custody prison with an official capacity of 858. The detached minimum unit affects placement and programming. It does not turn a work assignment or community-based movement into unconditional release. A June 2026 DAC release discussed treatment and work-release functions at the minimum unit, but record status still controls whether the person remained in DAC custody.

Foothills Offender Record Fields
The DAC individual page can show an offender number and image, names and demographics, inmate status, community-supervision status, the most recent incarceration, conviction date, total term, primary crime, and sentence history. The record may also show projected and actual release dates. These fields belong to separate parts of a person's state history and should not be flattened into one status.

Foothills Released Offender Search
DAC also provides a dedicated offender release search. It accepts county, year, and month criteria or a surname. Its county value is a DAC release field. It should not be read as proof that the conviction happened in Burke County or that the person passed through Burke County Jail.
Use the release results to locate a candidate, then open the individual record. Confirm the actual release date, identity, incarceration episode, and any supervision. The dedicated search uses a calendar-month structure, not a rolling 24-hour or 72-hour window. It therefore serves state release research, not same-day county jail monitoring.
The results include special county choices such as “Release County Not Reported” and “Released To Other State(s).” Those labels help locate a state episode when a normal county choice fails. They are not a substitute for the individual record. A surname-only result can include several people, and a release-county value does not establish where the offense occurred. Match offender number, age, sentence history, and docket details before using the date.
Foothills Release Notifications
NC SAVAN, also called VINELink, receives participating North Carolina jail and Adult Correction events. Search by exact name or offender ID, compare the reporting agency, and open the correct record. A released or out-of-custody event means that reporting agency stopped reporting the former custody status. It does not prove full sentence discharge or rule out another hold.
A person can register for available phone, text, or email notice through the North Carolina VINELink page. Separate offender IDs can require separate registrations as a person moves between systems. For a completed release, pair the event notice with the OPI actual date.
Supervision After Foothills Release
Leaving Foothills may begin or continue post-release supervision. Ordinary traditional parole was eliminated for crimes committed on or after October 1, 1994, while older eligible cases can remain under parole rules. Structured-sentencing cases use post-release supervision. Probation is generally a court-ordered community sentence and can appear in a separate case.

Read the supervision dates and status before describing the person as fully discharged. District 25 handles community-supervision routing for Burke, but the individual record or agency must identify the assigned office.
Projected dates can change as sentence credit, disciplinary action, court orders, or sentence recalculation changes the record. Under structured felony sentencing, the minimum term must be served, and earned time can reduce the maximum only to the minimum. Older parole-eligible sentences use different review rules. An actual release can also lead directly into a set period of post-release supervision. These legal differences are why a single date should be paired with the sentence type and active status rather than reported alone.

Burke Correctional Campus Status
Burke County contains three different correctional settings: the county jail, operating Foothills Correctional Institution, and the Burke CRV Center marked temporarily closed. Their records are not interchangeable. Current facility status matters because historical CRV material cannot be used to claim that a person is now housed or released there.
The county opened its current jail and magistrate complex in December 2019. That county history does not change Foothills into a local jail or make the Sheriff the custodian of its offender records. Foothills remains the operating state prison on the Burke correctional landscape, while DAC lists the nearby Confinement in Response to Violation center under a separate temporarily closed status.
Use the facility name and event date from the individual record before following any movement between these neighboring systems.
